SECTION IV SOFTBALL: TIOGA OPENS CLASS C PLAYOFFS AT HOME THIS WEEK — WAVERLY ON ROAD NEXT WEEK (2017-05-14)
Valley Sports Report THE VALLEY — Tioga opens the Section IV, Class C softball playoffs this week at home, while Waverly is on the road next week in its Class B opener.
CLASS C The Lady Tigers (10-5) are the sixth seed (in a 12-team bracket) and will host 11th-seed O-M (8-6) Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the opening round of the Class C playoffs.
The winner will face third-seed Thomas A. Edison (13-4) in the quarterfinals on May 23.
Second seed Union Springs (14-2) will face the winner of Thursday’s game between seventh seed Groton (11-5) and 10th seed Seton Catholic (3-14) on May 23.
On the other side of the bracket, top seed Notre Dame, 17-0 and the top-ranked team in the state, awaits the winner of Thursday’s game between eighth-seed Sidney (10-5) and ninth-seed Harpursville (10-7) on May 23.
Bainbridge-Guilford (16-2) is the fourth seed and will face the winner of Thursday’s game between fifth-seed Moravia (11-3) and 12th-seed Greene (8-8).
CLASS B Waverly (11-5) is the fifth seed (in a five-team bracket) and will travel to fourth-seed Oneonta (9-7) on May 23. The winner will face top-seed Susquehanna Valley (13-2) in the semifinals on May 25.
On the other side of the bracket, second-seed Windsor (11-6) hosts third-seed Chenango Forks (11-6) in the semifinals.
