Valley Sports Report for Penn York Valley

Valley Sports Report
WYSOX — Troy Pierce tossed a 3-hitter and Towanda’s offense battered Sayre pitching in a, 10-0, five-inning win here Monday afternoon in non-league baseball action.

In their first meeting of the season, which counted as the league game in NTL play, the Black Knights topped the Redskins, 11-4.

Towanda scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and that was more than enough for Pierce. Ryan Bartholomew had an RBI double and Luke Tama an RBI single in the rally.

Shane Martin’s two-run single in the bottom of the third inning keyed a three-run rally to give the Knights a 6-0 lead.

Pierce struck out one and walked one in the five inning shutout. He threw just 46 pitches.

Jordan Rockwell was 2-for-2 with a stolen base, and James Esposito added a single to account for the Redskins’ hits.

Sayre leads Cowanesque Valley by 1 1/2 games in the Small School Division standings with games at home against NEB (Thursday) and CV (Friday). CV’s lone league game is its game at Sayre Friday.

The Redskins, now 13-4, returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Athens in another non-league game.
