WAVERLY — The Blauvelt Funeral Home / Waverly Pharmacy Dodgers jumped out to a big lead early and held on for a 12-10 win over Coaches Pizza / Tomasso's Restaurant Red Sox here Tuesday evening in Waverly Little League Majors Division baseball action.
The Dodgers took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Brady Blauvelt, and an error that allowed two runs to score.
The Red Sox bounced back with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the second inning, but the Dodgers scored six times in the home half of the inning to take a 9-2 lead. The key blows in the rally were a two-run double by Damien McConnell and a two-run single by Joey VanAllen.
Trailing 10-3, Joey Tomasso hit a two-run single to highlight a five-run rally in the top of the fourth inning to trim the deficit to 10-8.
The Red Sox tied the game at 10-10 with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning, but Blauvelt slugged a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Dodgers a 12-10 lead.
Blauvelt had three hits, including a home run, scored three runs, and had four RBI, and Jake VanHouten stroked three singles, and scored four runs to lead the Dodgers’ 10-hit attack.
VanAllen singled, scored a run, and had four RBI for the Dodgers, while McConnell doubled, scored a run, and had two RBI, Nick Whipple singled and drove in a run, Zach Vanderpool singled and scored a run, and Charlie Larrabee scored a pair of runs.
Joey Tomasso singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, and Nathan Nocchi singled to account for the Red Sox’s three hits, while Hunter Barry scored three runs, and Brian Hicks crossed the plate twice.
Blauvelt pitched the sixth inning and retired the side in order with two strikeouts to pick up the win for the Dodgers.
Tomasso had the best turn on the mound for the Red Sox. He pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing an unearned run on two hits. He fanned seven.
The Dodgers improve to 4-3 on the season, while the Red Sox fall to 0-7.
The Dodgers and Yankees square off Wednesday evening.
