THE VALLEY — Track & field takes center stage with Athens and Sayre at the District 4 Championships vying for a trip to Shippensburg, while Waverly and Tioga are in Trumansburg at the IAC Championships.

The postseason also gets under way on the links at Cornell University as the best boys golfer converge for the Section IV Individual Championships.

TRACK & FIELD
Athens, Sayre at District 4 Championships, 3 p.m. field, 4 p.m. track @ Williamsport H.S.:
Athens juniors Breana Gambrell and Emily Lunger are the top seeds in three individual events apiece in the Class AA Championships, while Sayre senior Molly Ball is the Lady Redskins’ top seed in an event.

Athens senior Kalen Keathley is the top seed in two events in the Class AAA Championships, and Sayre senior Tylor Belles is the Redskins’ top seed in an event.

Waverly, Tioga at IAC Track & Field Championships, 4:30 p.m. @ Trumansburg: Freshman Isaac Chandler, junior Dalton Loper, and senior Jon Ward are likely the Waverly boys’ best bets to reach the podium Thursday and / or Friday, while junior Elle Nittinger, freshman Melina Ortiz, and senior Fallon Huck are the Lady Wolverines’ top candidates for a medal.

Seniors Jonny Polo Rankin and Zach Blayda, and junior DeMario Chambers are the Tioga boys’ best bets for the podium, while freshman Chloe Bellis, juniors Rachel Whitcomb, Joanna Wood and Martha Schumacher, and senior Kayla Staples are the Lady Tigers’ top candidates for a medal.

BOYS GOLF
Section IV Individual Championships, 9 a.m. @ Cornell:
Tioga freshman Sam Taylor,who is seeking his second trip to the New York State Championships, and teammate sophomore A.J. Middendorf take to the links this morning on Day 1 of the Section IV Individual Championships.

BASEBALL
NEB (7-9 overall, 3-9 NTL Small) at Sayre (13-5, 10-3), 4:30 p.m.:
The Redskins are coming off a 19-5 loss on their home field to crosstown rival Athens Wednesday, while the Panthers edged CV, 2-1, Tuesday.

Sayre clinched the Small School title Tuesday night with NEB’s win over CV.

SOFTBALL
NEB (13-4) at Sayre (1-15), 4:30 p.m.:
The Lady Redskins dropped a 14-3 decision to Athens Wednesday, while the division champion Lady Panthers beat CV, 7-2.
