SAYRE Sayre scored 14 runs in the first three innings en route to a, 14-2, five-inning win over NEB here Thursday afternoon in NTL Small School baseball action.
The division-champion Redskins scored two four runs on the bottom of the first inning to take a quick lead.
Sayre jumped out to a 2-0 lead on an RBI single by junior Nate Sweet, and a double steal with junior Jordan Rockwell stealing home, and freshman Isaiah Firestine swiping second.
Quinn Hanafin hit a line-drive single to left field to plate Firestine, and the final run scored on an NEB error to make it 4-0.
The Redskins tacked on two runs in the second inning on a double by Rockwell, an RBI single by junior Ryan Murrelle, and an RBI triple by junior Connor Hanafin to make it 6-0.
On the mound for Sayre, Rockwell retired the first nine batters he faced, including the last five via strikeout.
In the bottom of the third, the Redskins erupted for eight runs to push the lead to 14-0. The inning was highlighted by two-run singled by Rockwell and John Esposito, and an RBI single by senior Jake Goodrich.
Rockwell doubled and singled, scored three runs, and had two RBI, and John Esposito singled twice, scored a run, and had two RBI to lead Sayres 14-hit attack, while Nate Sweet singled twice and drove in two runs, junior Sam Wheeler singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in a run, and Goodrich singled twice, scored a run, and knocked in a run.
Connor Hanafin tripled and drove in a run in the win, while senior Matt Williams singled and scored a pair of run, freshman Quinn Hanafin singled, scored two runs, and drove in a run, and Murrelle singled and drove in a run. Courtesy-runner Firestine scored three runs, and stole three bases.
Rockwell earned the win for the Redskins with four no-hit innings. He allowed and unearned run on one walk, while striking out seven.
Sayre, now 14-5, returns to action Friday when it hosts Cowanesque Valley in its regular-season finale.
