WYSOX — Athens and Towanda split a doubleheader here Thursday afternoon in NTL junior varsity baseball action.
Towanda pulled out a 2-1 decision in the opener, but Athens bounced back to win the nightcap, 5-1.
Towanda 2, Athens 1
Towanda scored two runs on four consecutive singles in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead and made it stand in a 2-1 win.
Athens’ Nate Kennedy reached on an error to lead off the top of the second, and scored on a two-out RBI single by Keegan Rude to give the junior Wildcats a 1-0 lead, but Towanda rallied in the home half of the inning.
Brady Smith also singled to provide Athens’ only other hit in the contest.
Aaron Lane was tagged with the loss. He allowed two runs on nine hits, while striking out two and walking none in four innings..
Athens 5, Towanda 1
Jeff Reagan pitched five strong innings to lead Athens to a 5-1 win in the nightcap.
Joe Parshall ripped a two-run double in the bottom of the first to score Kaden Rude and Aaron Lane, who led off the frame with back-to-back singles.
Athens added insurance runs in each of the next three innings.
Lane singled twice and scored two runs, and Rude singled twice and score a run to pace Athens at the plate, while Nick Watkins tripled, and Parshall doubled.
Chase Minnick, Jeff Reagan, Ethan Witherow and Nate Kennedy each singled in the win, and Brady Smith scored a pair of runs.
Reagan allowed one run on four hits, while striking out one and walking four.
