TROY  Athens exploded for 16 runs in the top of the second inning en route to a 19-1 win over Troy-2 here Wednesday evening in the opening game of pool play in the District 15 Little League 9-11 baseball playoffs.

Athens banged out 22 hits in the win, led by five hitters who each had three hits.

Kaiden Hyjek was 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, three runs scored, and one RBI, and Connor Mosher was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, and two RBI, while Jack Cheresnowsky had three hits, including a double, two runs scored, and three RBI Aidan Garcia was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, and Kaden Rowe was 3-for-3 with a double, one run scored, and one RBI.

Ethan Kinner homered and singled, scored one run, and had four RBI in the win, while Shawn Irons doubled and singled, scored two runs, and had two RBI, Tyler Roe doubled, scored two runs, and drove in one run, Kolsen Keathley singled, scored two runs, and had two RBI, and, Noah Hobday singled and scored two runs.

Mosher, Eli Chapman, Irons, and Keathley combined on a no-hitter on the mound for Athens. Chapman struck out the side in his one inning of work, while Mosher struck out two, and Irons, and Keathley each struck out one.

Athens returns to action Sunday when it hosts Tioga-Lawrenceville in a 3 p.m. start.
