WAVERLY — Shea Bailey and Hogan Shaw combined on a two-hitter to lead Waverly to an 11-1 five-inning win over Corning here Saturday in consolation bracket action of the District 6 Minors Division baseball playoffs.

Bailey earned the win, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out five and walking two in 2 1/3 innings of work. Hogan pitched 2 2/3 innings of no-hit relief, striking out three and walking two.

Corning drew first blood with a run in the top of the first inning, but Waverly answered with three runs in the home half of the inning.

Bailey and Andrew Larrabee worked walks to lead off the bottom of the first inning, then Bryce LaForrest, and Hogan Shaw delivered RBI singles to give Waverly a 2-1 lead. Waverly tacked on another run  on a two-out Corning error.

Waverly added two more runs in the second inning. Kohen Hugo doubled to lead off the inning and Bailey followed with a walk. Both runners ended up scoring on passed balls to make it 5-1.

Waverly ended the game via the 10-run “mercy” rule in the bottom of the fifth inning with a six-run rally highlighted by RBI singles by Jerry Carnrike, Bailey, and LaForest, and a game-ending sacrifice fly by Tristan Campbell.

LaForest stroked three singles, scored one run, and had three RBI, and Bailey singled twice, scored three runs, and drove in one to lead Waverly’s nine-hit attack.

Carnrike singled, scored a run, and drove in a run in the win, while Hugo doubled and scored two runs, Nathan Kellogg singled and scored, Hogan Shaw singled and drove in a run, LaForest scored a run, and drove in a run, and Ben Shaw and Carter Davies each scored a run.

Waverly returns to action Monday at Painted Post.
