BUFFALO — Waverly junior Jeff Mastrantuono and Ithaca senior Chris Nock represented the Central Region in the pole vault competition on Thursday at the Empire State Games held at the New York State University at Buffalo.
Nock placed second with a jump of 4.25 meters and Mastrantuono was fourth with a vault of 3.95 meters in the boys scholastic division.
Both vaulters participated in the opening ceremonies on Wednesday evening in the Buffalo Bulls’ stadium in which over 3,000 athletes paraded in.
Statewide, 30,000 athletes tried out for the Games with 6,000 advancing to the finals competition.
