NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: DOWN 11 AT HALF, ATHENS RALLIES FOR 62-47 WIN OVER NEB (14 PHOTOS) (2019-01-11)

ATHENS  Fresh off a career-high 39-point performance Wednesday night, junior Aaron Lane followed it up with 26 points to lead Athens to a 62-47 win over Northeast Bradford here Friday night in NTL boys basketball action.

The Wildcats got off to a slow start, trailing 33-22 at the half. Zak Smith pumped in 12 points and Andy Crown added 11 for the Panthers, while Lane had seven for Athens and sophomore Ben Gambrell added six.

In the third quarter, Lane and senior Westbrook scored six points apiece to fuel a 17-4 blitz that put Athens up 39-37 entering the final eight minutes.

Lane caught fire in the fourth quarter, pumping in 13 points, including a 3-for-3 effort at the free-throw line, to power a 24-10 game-ending run that sewed up the win.

Westbrook added 13 points in the win for the Wildcats, while Gambrell added nine points, and junior Keegan Rude and junior Damian Hudson chipped in with seven points apiece.

Clayton Connor led NEB with 15 points, while Smith had 14 points, and Crown added 12.

Athens, now 8-1, hosts Loyalsock (11-1) this afternoon.
