NTL SWIMMING: SAYRE BOYS, GIRLS NOTCH FIRST WINS OF SEASON AT SHAMOKIN (2019-01-13)
Valley Sports ReportSHAMOKIN - The Sayre boys and girls, behind several season-best performances, each notched their first wins of the season here Saturday in non-league swimming action.
The Sayre boys beat Shamokin 22-12, and the Lady Redskins won by a score of 46-40.
Towanda was also at the meet, but Sayre only competed against Shamokin in the double-dual format.
BOYS
Senior Josh McClelland was a double-winner, and seniors Joe Stermer and Matt Beers each won one event in the Sayre win.
McClelland won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.09, and senior Matt Beers was second in a season-best time of 26.91 seconds.
McClelland also won the 100-yard butterfly in a season-best District 4-qualifying time of 59.94 seconds.
Stermer won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:01.55, and Beers won the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 2:19.8.
Stermer finished second in the 1-meter diving competition with a season-best 191.75 points.
GIRLS
Senior Kayla Kittle and junior Jillian Shay were each triple-winners, and senior Clay Shaffer and junior Kayla Hughey were double-winners to lead the Lady Redskins to the win.
Kittle won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:20.66, and junior Jordyn Maxim was second in 2:53.3.
Shay won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:16.26.
Shay and Kittle teamed with Hughey and Shaffer to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:56.72. The same foursome teamed to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:27.57.
Hughey finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 29.75 seconds, and Shaffer was third in a season-best time of 30.6 seconds.
Senior Emily Lattimer finished second in the 200-yard IM in a time of 3:04.61, and was also second in the 100-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 1:21.93.
Senior Jasmine Fairlie finished second in the 100-yard backstroke a time of 1:30.84. She also finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:53.48.
Shaffer finished third in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:07.63, and freshman Jade Fairlie also posted a season-best time of 39.26 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle.
Sayre returns to action Thursday at Towanda in a meet that also includes Danville.
