NTL JV BOYS BASKETBALL: TROY KNOCKS OFF SAYRE, 48-42 (2019-01-13)

Valley Sports Report
TROY - Troy took the lead early in the second quarter and never relinquished it en route to a 48-42 win over Sayre here Friday evening at the Commons Building.

Troy jumped out to an 8-3 lead midway through the first quarter, but Donnie Abrams, off a feed from Brayden Horton, and Horton, off a feed from Matt Lane, scored back-to-back buckets to trim the deficit to 8-7.

Troy led 10-7 after the first quarter, but buckets by Horton and Zach Bellis gave Sayre its first lead at 11-10.

A Bellis free throw upped the lead to 12-10, but it would be the Redskins last lead of the game as Troy used a 9-0 spurt to take a 19-12 lead.

Sayre closed the gap to four points, at 20-16, on a bucket by David Northrup, but Troy used a 7-0 run that extended into the third quarter to take a 27-16 lead.

Sayre would trim the deficit to five points, at 27-22, on a 3-pointer and an old-fashioned three-point play by Lane, but that's as close as they would get as Troy scored the next five points.

Horton led Sayre with 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and three steals, while Abrams had 10 points and three boards, Lane added eight points, three steals, and two assists, and Bellis chipped in with four points and four rebounds.

Sayre returns to action Monday when it hosts Williamson.
