DRYDEN - Waverly parlayed a red-hot start into 25-point halftime lead, and cruised to a 70-22 rout of Dryden here Friday evening in IAC Large School junior varsity boys basketball action.

Liam Traub canned a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points in the first quarter, while Davis Croft added six points, and Nick VanHouten, who also hit a 3-pointer, had five points in a 23-8 first-quarter blitz for the junior Wolverines.

Brennan Traub knocked down a 3-pointer and scored seven points in the second quarter to fuel a 13-3 run that put Waverly up 38-13 at the half.

Waverly maintained its pace in the third quarter behind seven points from Brady Blauvelt, who connected on a 3-pointer, and six from Liam Traub as Waverly built a 55-18 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

Liam Traub, who knocked down four 3-pointers in the game, led Waverly 22 points, four steals, four blocked shots, and three rebounds, while Davis Croft had 12 points, nine rebounds, and two blocked shots, and  Brennan Traub had 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

VanHouten had nine points, six rebounds, three steals, and three assists in the win, while Blauvelt added seven points, Nalen Carling chipped in with four points, six boards, and two blocked shots, and Joey Tomasso contributed seven rebounds, six steals, and three assists.

Waverly returns to action Tuesday at Newark Valley.
