WELLSBORO - After a big first quarter, Athens struggled offensively in a 28-25 loss to Wellsboro here Saturday afternoon.

Olivia Bartlow and Hannah Forbes, who was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, scored four points apiece to lead the junior Lady Wildcats to a 13-4 lead after the first eight minutes.

Athens had just one field goal, by Caydence Macik, in the second quarter, and Wellsboro trimmed the lead to 17-12 at the half.

Olivia Bartlow and Rachel Stevens scored Athens' only points of the third quarter, and Wellsboro took a 22-20 lead into the final eight minutes.

Athens did not muster a field goal in the fourth quarter, but made 5 of 7 free throws, while Wellsboro made just 1 of 8 from the charity stripe. The Lady Hornets did get a big 3-pointer from Lindsay Marama in the stanza to provide a little cushion.

Macik led Athens with eight points, six rebounds, and two blocked shots, while Forbes was 7-for-8 from the free-throw line and had seven points, as well as three assists, Olivia Bartlow added six points and four rebounds, Stevens hauled down six boards.

Athens returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Williamson.
