IAC BOWLING: TIOGA TAKES BIG STEP TOWARD DIVISION CROWN WITH 3-1 WIN OVER SECOND-PLACE GROTON; LADY TIGERS ALSO WIN 3-1 (2019-01-16)

WAVERLY-The Tioga boys took a big step toward winning its third straight Small School divisional title here Wednesday with a 3-1 win over Groton, while the Lady Tigers also prevailed 3-1 in IAC bowling action at the Valley Bowling Center.

BOYS
Tioga 3, Gorton 1

Groton entered the week just 1 game behind Tioga in the divisional title chase, but 3-1 losses to Waverly and Tioga on back-to-back days, paired with the Tigers' sweep of Lansing Tuesday, leaves the Indians 6 games off pace.

Tioga won the first game 1,068-911, but Groton bounced back to win the second game 990-936. The Tigers rolled to a 1,066-921 in the third game, and took the total-pinfall point by a count of 3,070 to 2,822.

Senior Jason Sherman banged out a 668 series on games of 232, 190, and 246, and his twin brother, senior Eric Sherman, shot a 637 series on games of 222, 209, and 206 to lead the first-place Tigers.

Senior A.J. Middendorf rolled a 589 series, including games of 220 and 201, while freshman Dylan Slater shot a 576, including games of 200, 149, and 227, sophomore Kolton Pond added a 567, and senior Mason Trollman tacked on a 512 series.

Cameron Hamilton led Groton with a 598, Jesse Vyskocil had a 588, and Mason Hill added a 583.

GIRLS
Tioga 3, Gorton 1

Senior Mackenzie Robinson threw a 478 for the second consecutive day to lead Tioga to a 3-1 win over Groton.

Juniors Bailey Elston and Mackenzie Macumber shot 429 and 423, respectively, for the Lady Tigers, while sophomore Destini Sweet had a 310, sophomore Mary Taylor added a 303, and sophomore Millie Grantham tacked on a 302.

Emily Cardigan shot a 423 to lead Groton.

Tioga hosts O-M Thursday.
