NEWARK VALLEY - The Lady Wolverines kept their division title changes alive with a sweep of Newark Valley here Thursday afternoon, while the Waverly boys missed an opportunity to gain ground on the divisional leaders with a 4-0 loss to the Cardinals in IAC bowling action at Cardinal Lanes.

GIRLS
Waverly 4, Newark Valley 0

Waverly used a balanced line-up to post a lopsided sweep of Newark Valley to keep pace with division-leading Union Springs, which swept Notre Dame.

The Lady Wolverines, who have won 15 consecutive division titles, trail Union Springs by four games in the standings with three matches remaining to play.

Seventh-grader Rachel Houseknecht rolled a 562 series, including a 237 in the first game, to lead Waverly, while senior Sarah Uhl shot a 549, and  junior Mackenzie Plouse added a 503,

Senior Sarah Wood rolled a 452 in the sweep, while 8th-grader Victoria Houseknecht had a 422, and senior Kari VanAllen tacked on a 297.

Victoria Vellum led Newark Valley with a 386.

BOYS
Newark Valley 4, Waverly 0

In a tight three-way battle for first-place, Waverly missed an opportunity to gain ground Union Springs, which dropped a 3-1 decision to Notre Dame, with a 4-0 loss to Newark Valley.

The Cardinals won the first game 914-862, and followed up with wins of 964-933 and 944-921 for a total-pinfall victory of 2,822 to 2,716.

Alex Umiker led Newark Valley with a 707 series on games of 213, 290, and 204, and Kyle Pratt rolled a 629 series on games 214, 202, and 213.

Eighth-grader Zach Vanderpool led Waverly with a 638 series on gams of 215, 213, and 210, while junior Derrick Canfield shot a 574, including a 211 in the first game, and sophomore Richard Stevens had a 525.

Eighth-grader Ashton Pritchard rolled a 489 for the Wolverines, while junior Matt Mauersberg added a 479, and freshman Cody Blackwell tacked on a 423.

Waverly returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Union Springs in a key match-ups for both the boys and girls.
