IAC BOYS SWIMMING: WHEELER RACKS UP 100TH CAREER WIN - WAVERLY DUNKS LANSING, 133-43 (24 PHOTOS) (2019-01-17)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY - Freshman Kaden Wheeler, who racked up his 100th career victory, junior Mike Atanasoff, and sophomore Ryan Bennett won four events apiece to lead unbeaten Waverly to a 133-43 win over Lansing here Thursday afternoon in IAC boys swimming action.
Sophomore Collin Keefer was a triple-winner for the Wolverines, who improve to 12-0 on the season, while seniors Max VanDyke and Trenton Wright were double-winners, and 7th-grader Ryan Clark earned his first varsity victory.
Wheeler's 100th career win came in the 100-yard butterfly, which he won in a time of 58.7 seconds, while VanDyke was second in 1:05.35. He also won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:03.00.
Atanasoff won the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:09.05 - seventh all-time on Waverly's Top 25, and Trent Wright was second in 2:32.04. He also won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:06.25.
Bennett led a sweep in the 50-yard freestyle in a personal-best time of 24.33 seconds, while VanDyke was second in 25.01 seconds, and junior Nick Janzen was third in 27.78 seconds.
Bennett also led a sweep in the 100-yard freestyle in a personal-best time of 55.68 seconds, while Trent Wright was second in a personal-best time of 57.49 seconds, and Jarell Sackett was third in a personal-best time of 1:06.39.
Wheeler, Bennett and Atanasoff teamed with VanDyke to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:55.61.
Atanasoff and Bennett teamed with Ryan Clark and Trent Wright to win he 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:46.84, and the Waverly foursome of 8th-grader Oscar Williams, Janzen, sophomore Dillon Madigan, and Keefer was second in 1:52.73.
Wheeler teamed with Trent Wright, VanDyke and Keefer to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:59.48
Keefer led a sweep in the 200-yard freestyle, winning in a time of 2:07.29, while Williams was second in a personal-best 2:22.95, and 7th-grader Liam Wright was third in 2:27.15.
Keefer also won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:37.62, and Williams was second in a personal-best time of 6:13.94.
Junior Gage Streeter won the 1-meter diving competition with a personal-best 11-dive score of 395.7.
Other personal-best times for the Wolverines were posted by Janzen (1:17.81 in the butterfly), Matt Atanasoff (30.96 seconds in the 50 free), Brandon Clark (31.96 seconds in the 50 free), and Liam Wright (6:22.31 in the 500 free).
Waverly returns to action Jan. 25 at O-M.
