IAC WRESTLING: TIOGA PICKS UP 12 BONUS-POINT WINS TO CRUSH DRYDEN, 68-12 (17 PHOTOS) (2019-01-17)

TIGERS' TAYLOR PICKS UP 100TH CAREER WIN

Valley Sports Report
TIOGA CENTER - Tioga honored several veteran wrestlers with a 68-12 Senior Night victory over Dryden here Thursday.

The triumph moved the Tigers within a win of the IAC Division I dual meet championship and also marked the 100th career victory for senior heavyweight Stephen Taylor.
The milestone may have been bittersweet for Taylor as he didn't have an opportunity to get the win competitively. He was one of four Tioga grapplers to receive a forfeit.

The Tigers did manage to pick up bonus points on the mat as well, registering six falls and two major decisions.

"They overcame some adversity," said Tioga head coach Kris Harrington. "This was a make-up that was scheduled Tuesday night, so we were a little flat coming off Tuesday, but I thought our kids performed well."

Mason Welch go the pin parade underway in the first bout of the night, decking Zack Willson in 1:08 at 113 pounds. Justin Hopkins followed up at 120, dispatching Miles Couch in 1:25 for a 12-0 Tioga lead.

The Purple Lions would get on the scoreboard with RJ Bellanger's fall over Emily Sindoni, who bumped up to 126.

With the Tigers ahead, 16-6, Brady Worthing scored a 12-1 major decision over Sam Dow at 132, then John Worthing (138) picked up the first senior win with a pin of Matt McKewin-Bates in 2:15.

Classmate Austin Lamb (145) pushed the lead to 28-6 with a fall in 1:35 against Bobby Brotherton.

After freshman Emmett Wood disposed of his opponent, Braedon Libbey, in 2:49, senior Zac Warner (160) gave Tioga a 40-6 cushion with a fall over Vincent Scott in 1:26.

"Dryden's pretty tough in the middle," Harrington said. "They have 132 to 160, so to have our kids perform that well on short notice is pretty good.

The Lions would pick up a pair of decisions to cut the lead to 40-12. Kole Krause (170) out-dueled Vinny Sullivan, 4-3, and Wes Floor (182) won a wild affair over Dom Wood, 17-11.

Joe Lloyd would give the Tigers another senior win, scoring a 9-0 major decision over Nate Hollenbeck.

"To see Joe Lloyd get a win on senior night, and you look at Dom Wood. The kid he wrestled is ranked in the top five in the section. He did a great job, so I'm happy," Harrington said.

With the lead 44-12, seniors Matt Babcock (220) and Taylor (285), and 7th-graders Gianni Silvestri (99) and Caden Bellis (99) received forfeits to polish off the win.

In an exhibition match at 195, Jared Lamb recorded a fall.

"No one got hurt, which is most important to me on a quick turnaround. Now, one day to reset and get ready for the IACs."

Tioga competes in the IAC championships at Waverly Saturday and are expected to repeat as team champions. Welch, the Worthings and Austin Lamb are defending champs. John Worthing is a 3-time champ and Austin Lamb has won two league titles.
