NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: SAYRE RIDES 40-2 FIRST-HALF RUN TO 77-20 WIN OVER NORTH PENN-LIBERTY (20 PHOTOS) (2019-01-18)

SAYRE - Sayre blew the game wide-open with a 40-2 first-half run, including 28 unanswered points, en route to a 77-20 win over North Penn-Liberty here Thursday evening in NTL girls basketball action.

NP-L scored the first two points of the game, but senior Camry Lane scored in transition to tie the game, and senior Stephanie Klovekorn scored on an offensive rebound to give the Lady Redskins the lead for good, at 4-2, with 6:45 left in the first quarter.

Sayre scored eight more points in the 12-0 run to take a 12-2 lead with 3:25 remaining in the first quarter.

NP-L broke its scoreless skein with 2:13 left in the first quarter, but wouldn't score again until the final minute of the first half.

Junior Emily Sutryk drained a pair of 3-pointers, both off feeds from Lane, in the final minute of the first quarter as Sayre stretched its lead to 20-4 after the first eight minutes.

Klovekorn and sophomore Gabbi Randall scored eight points apiece - the majority of them in transition, and Lane added four points as Sayre stretched its lead to 40-4 late in the second quarter.

NP-L's Camryn Moyer broke the Lady Mountaineer scoring drought with 51 seconds remaining in the first half. Sayre led 40-7 at the half.

Lane poured in 18 points in the third quarter, including a trio of 3-pointers, and Sutryk added seven points, including her third 3-pointer of the contest, in a 29-10 run that extended the Lady Redskin lead to 69-17.

Lane pumped in 28 points, including four 3-pointers, and had eight rebounds, eight steals, and one blocked shot to lead Sayre, while Sutryk had 19 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, four rebounds, and four steals, Klovekorn had 14 points, five rebounds, five steals, and four assists, and Randall added 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Taylor Thompson led NP-L with seven points.

Sayre, now 10-4, returns to action Saturday at Canton. The start time has been moved up to 11 a.m.
