WAVERLY - Waverly scored 18 points in the first three minutes of the game, and cruised to a 75-31 win over Whitney Point here Thursday night in a battle of IAC Large School girls basketball division leaders.

With the win, Waverly improves to 13-0 overall and 8-0 in Large School play - just one game ahead of Watkins Glen, while Whitney Point falls to 8-6 overall and 5-3 in Large School play - 2 1/2-games ahead of Dryden.

Sophomore Sidney Tomasso and senior Wendy Hammond scored the first two buckets of the game to make it 4-0 just 54 seconds into the game.

Alex Tomasso then scored 12 straight points, including a pair of 3-pointers and a 4-for-4 effort at the free-throw line to make it 16-2 with 5:17 remaining in the first quarter.

Hammond scored in transition with 5:05 remaining to make it 18-2.

Sidney Tomasso canned back-to-back 3-pointers, and Alex Tomasso added her third from long range with 2:43 left in the first quarter to make it 27-5.

Hammond and Morgan Adams closed the scoring in the first eight minutes for the Lady Wolverines to make it 31-9 heading to the second quarter.

Seven different Lady Wolverines found the scoring column in the second quarter, including Alex Tomasso and Hammond, who both knocked down 3-pointers as Waverly stretched its lead to 47-14 at the half.

Waverly ended the game with 10 of its 11 players in the scoring column.

Alex Tomasso poured in 25 points and knocked down five of the Lady Wolverines' nine 3-pointers in the game, while Sidney Tomasso scored 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Hammond added 10 points.

Junior Gianna Picco scored five points in the win, while senior Lauren Newman, juniors Gretchen Sowle, Sabrina Pierce, and Paige Lewis added four points apiece.

Amy Stevens led Whitney Point with 15 points and Olivia Driscoll added 13.

Waverly travels to Notre Dame Jan. 25.
