NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: SAYRE BOYS END SEASON WITH 71-38 ROUT OF MONTGOMERY (2019-02-14)

MONTGOMERY - Sayre scored the first 13 points of the game, and led wire-to-wire in a season-ending 71-38 rout of Montgomery in non-league boys basketball action.

Sophomore Zach Moore knocked down a 3-pointer on Sayre's possession, then senior Gag Carnrike scored in transition to give Sayre a quick 5-0 lead.

Freshman Brayden Horton scored Sayre's next bucket, then Carnrike capped the game-opening run with straight points, including a 3-pointer to make it 13-0

Montgomery trimmed its deficit to 19-10 early in the second quarter, but Carnrike and sophomore Donnie Abrams scored back-to-back buckets to make it 23-10 and trigger an 11-0 run.

Senior James Esposito scored in transition, then added a free throw moments later to push the lead to 26-10, then Carnrike and Esposito scored consecutive buckets to give the Redskins a 30-10 lead with 45 seconds remaining in the first half.

Montgomery made three quick buckets to cut the deficit to 30-16, but Moore knocked down a 3-pointer in the closing seconds of the first half to make it 33-16.

Esposito scored the first and last bucket in an 8-0 to open the half that extended the Redskin lead to 41-16.

Sayre led 54-26 entering the final eight minutes, and built its lead to 35 points on two separate occasions in the fourth quarter.

Carnrike, who made 9 of 13 shots from the field, led Sayre with 20 points, five steals and four rebounds, while Esposito, who made 5 of 6 shots from the field, had 12 points and six rebounds, and Moore added 11 points, including three 3-pointers, and three rebounds.

Sophomore Connor Young had 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists in the win, while Abrams had eight points and seven boards, Horton had six points, five assists, and four rebounds, and sophomore Zach Belles chipped in with four points and three rebounds.

Sayre, which won its last two games of the season, finishes the 2018-19 campaign at 7-15.
