CORNING - Sayre grad Blair Wampole, a freshman on the Corning Community College women's basketball team, added her name to the Lady Red Baron record book for the second time in three weeks, setting a new school record for blocked shots in a single season here Saturday in a 64-59 win over Jefferson Community College.

Wampole, who blocked a school-record 12 shots on Jan. 27, blocked 11 shots Saturday to give her 94 this season, breaking the record of 86 set by Ginger Mattison during the 1995-96 season.

Wampole also had 15 points and four assists in Corning's win Saturday.

On Wednesday, Wampole also blocked 11 shots, to go along with 12 points, on 4 of 5 shooting from the field, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a 64-41 win over Broome Community College.

On Feb. 9, Wampole had 12 points, 12 rebounds, seven blocked shots, two assists, and one steal in a 55-43 win over Finger Lakes CC.

In the last eight games of the season, Wampole averaged 9.4, 10.8 rebounds, and 7.1 blocks per game.

On the season, Wampole, who started in all 21 games, averaged 7.4 points per game, and led the team with 7.7 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks per game. She also had 32 assists and 14 steals this season.

Corning CC finished the regular season at 10-11.
