NTL JUNIOR HIGH SWIMMING: ATHENS' WILLIAMS BREAKS TWO RECORDS AT LEAGUE MEET (2019-02-19)

ATHENS - Eighth-grader Teagan Williams broke a pair of meet records and led Athens to a team title here Friday at the NTL junior high swimming championships. The Athens boys, led by quad-winner Chris Deforest also won the team title.

GIRLS
Athens 159, Towanda 93, Sayre 42

Williams, a triple-winner, broke meet records in the 50-yard freestyle and the 50-yard backstroke for the junior Wildcats, while Emily Marshall and Evelyn Reynolds were double-winners for Athens.

Williams won the 50-yard freestyle in a meet-record time 27.41 seconds, while her teammates Evelyn Reynolds (30.97), and Emily Marshall (31.31) finished second and fourth, respectively. Athens' Allison Thoman was fifth in 34.81 seconds, Sayre's Cadence Rose finished sixth in 37.58 seconds, and Sayre's Hannah Green was eighth in 48.62 seconds.

Williams won the 50-yard backstroke in a meet-record time of 32.33 seconds, while Athens' Faith Valentin was second in 48.16 seconds, and Athens' Abbigale Goodenow was fourth in 1:36.36.

Williams teamed with Reynolds, Marshall and Thoman to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 2:10.15.

Marshall won the 50-yard butterfly in 36.15 seconds.

Reynolds won the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 39.91 seconds, while Thoman was second in 40.5 seconds, and Cobb was fourth in 48.05 seconds. Rose was fifth in 48.45 seconds, while Athens' Casey Reid was sixth in 52.49 seconds, Green was seventh in 1:02.47, and Sayre's Ella Chilson was eight in 1:04.69.

The Athens foursome of Valentin, Cassy Friend, Reynolds and Reid finished second in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:49.14.

Athens' Grace Cobb finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:18.63, and Athens' Madelyn Jones was third in 1:52.35.

BOYS
Athens 145, Towanda 16

Deforest won four events, including a record-setting performance, while Joe Blood and Ethan Dhliilnger were triple-winners, and Travis Webster and Lynn Destine were double-winners for the Wildcats.

Deforest won the 100-yard IM in a time of 1:16.66, and Webster was second in 1:27.57.

Deforest led a sweep in the 50-yard butterfly, clocking in at 31.15 seconds, while Dhliinger was second in 36.26 seconds, and Blood was third in 39.74 seconds.

Deforest's meet record came in the lead-off leg of the 200-yard freestyle. He team with Destine, David Derrig and Blood to win the event in a time of 2:44.02.

Deforest also teamed with Dhliinger, Webster and Blood to win the 200-yard medley relay in 2:27.75.

Blood won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 33.2 seconds, and Derrig was third in 49.48 seconds.

Dhliinger led a sweep in the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 38.45 seconds, while Destine was second in 1:08.49, and Derrig was third in 1:09.68.

Webster won the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 43.49 seconds, while Destine won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:47.09.
