PIAA GIRLS DIVING: ATHENS' WALKER FINISHES 23RD IN DEBUT AT STATES (2 PHOTOS) (2019-03-13)

Valley Sports Report
LEWISBURG - Athens freshman Taylor Walker finished 23rd in the 1-meter diving competition here Wednesday evening at the PIAA Swimming & Diving Championships at Bucknell University.

Walker scored 86.80 in the preliminaries and was one of four divers eliminated prior to the semifinals.

Ringgold senior Anna Vogt won the state gold with 421.1 points, while Trinity senior Erica Kenski won the silver medal with 382.35 points, and Allentown Central Catholic senior Jamilie Atiyeh won the bronze medal with 375.8 points.

Regardless of the outcome, Walker first-ever season of diving was a rousing and unprecedented success, especially considering her first competitive dive was on Dec. 18.

"Thinking of the start of the season, I could barely do a forward dive and just thinking of the progression is nuts," Walker said.

"I was so surprised to be moving on to the state level," Walker added. "I did not expect this at all, whatsoever."

Walker is already looking forward to the 2019-20 season.

"I've learned so much," Walker said. "There's definitely dives I want to add to my list as I keep growing as a diver."
