SCHOLASTIC WRESTLING: WORTHINGS PERFORM WELL AT 'PINNING DOWN AUTISM ALL-STATE DUALS' (2019-03-17)
Valley Sports ReportMONTVALE, N.J. - Tioga senior John Worthing won both his bouts, and junior Brady Worthing split a pair of decisions as the New York All-Stars also split a pair of decisions here Sunday at the 2019 Pinning Down Autism All-State Duals at St. Joseph Regional High School.
The New York All-Stars rolled to a 59-6 win over the Mid-Atlantic All-Stars Sunday morning, then let a 31-12 lead slip away as the New Jersey All-Stars won the last five weight classes for a 39-32 win.
New Jersey topped Mid-Atlantic 69-3.
Brady Worthing recorded an 8-0 major decision over Devin Matthews of Dinwiddie H.S. (Va.) at 132 pounds to give New York a 25-0 lead over Mid-Atlantic.
At 138 pounds, John Worthing extended the NY lead to 31-0 with a fall in 1:41 over Shawn Nonaka of C.D. Hylton H.S. (Va.).
Nonaka finished third in Virginia Class 6A State Championships.
Against New Jersey, Andrew Clark of Collingswood forged a 3-0 win over Brady Worthing at 132 pounds to trim the NY lead to 13-12.
Clark was 44-4 as a senior and finished third in the New Jersey State Championships.
At 138 pounds, John Worthing hammered out a 12-3 major decision over Craig Manno of St. Joe's Regional.
Manno was a runner-up at Beast of the East this year, and was a state qualifier with a 28-12 record.
