WAVERLY'S HOUSEKNECHT 'NEWCOMER OF YEAR'

THE VALLEY - One of the top bowlers in the IAC all season long, Tioga sophomore Kolton Pond hit his stride in the postseason, earned his first trip to the New York State Championships, and is the 2018-19 Valley Sports Report "Bowler of the Year."

During the regular season, Pond was second in the IAC with a 206 average. He had a high series of 708 and a high game of 278.

Pond, who finished 10th at the IAC Championships, won the Class C Championships gold medal with a 642 series. He finished ninth at the State Qualifier, which his included his three-game set at the Class C event, with a nine-game tally of 1,867.

He finished 41st at States with a six-game set of 1,128. He rolled a 603 series, including a high game of 234, in his first three games, then followed it up with a 525 series.

Waverly 7th-grader Rachel Houseknecht is the 2018-19 "Newcomer of the Year." She finished her first varsity season with a 145 average. She had a high series of 562, and a high game of 237.

Houseknecht had a two-game tally of 299 (149.5 average) at the Class C Championships.

The remainder of the 2018-19 "Super 7" are:
Derrick Canfield, junior, Waverly: Canfield was fourth in the IAC during the regular season with a 205 average, and had the third-highest series of the league season with a 723, and second-highest game with a 289.

He finished second at the IAC Championships with a 669 series.

Canfield finished third at the Class C Championships with a 656 series. He finished 14th overall at the State Qualifier with a nine-game tally of 1,811 pins.

Zach Vanderpool, 8th-grader, Waverly: Vanderpool led the IAC in the regular season with a 215 average, and rolled the second-highest series of the season in the league with a 731, which included a high game of 280.

He finished fourth at the IAC Championships with a 637 series.

Vanderpool finished 24th at the Class C Championships with a 534 series. He finished 23rd overall at the State Qualifier with a nine-game tally of 1,763.

Mackenzie Plouse, junior, Waverly: Plouse was second in the IAC with a 182 average, and had the high series (735) and high game (275) in the league this season.

She finished fourth at the IAC Championships with a 534 series.

Plouse finished 19th at the State Qualifier with a nine-game tally of 1,615. She finished seventh at the Class C Championships with a 555 series.

Jason Sherman, senior, Tioga: Jason Sherman was sixth in the IAC this season with a 203 average. He had the high series in the IAC this season with a 753, and had a high game of 279.

He finished third at the IAC Championships with a 647 series.

Jason Sherman finished sixth at the Class C Championships with a 591, including the gold-medal high game of 259.

Victoria Houseknecht, 8th-grader, Waverly: Victoria Houseknecht was fifth in the IAC with a 173 average, and rolled the second-highest series of the season at 695.

She was fifth at the IAC Championships with a 529 series.

Houseknecht won a silver medal a the Class C Championships with a 604 series that including a 212 high game. She finished 24th at the State Qualifier with a nine-game set of 1,564, which included the Class C series.

Eric Sherman, senior, Tioga:
Eric Sherman was 12th in the IAC with a 179 average. He had a high series of 637, and a high game of 255.

Eric Sherman, who was was 19th at the IAC Championships, finished seventh at the Class C Championships with a 579 series. He finished 21st overall at the State Qualifier with a nine-tame total of 1,795.
