SCRANTON - The Athens 8th- & 9th-grade AAU boys basketball team went 3-0, including a pair of closely-contested wins, here Sunday at the Backcourt Hoops Tournament.

Athens 82, Electric City Voltz 25
Athens used a balanced attack, with five players scoring in double-figures, in an 82-25 rout of Scranton-based Electric City Voltz in the first game of the day.

Troy Pritchard led Athens with 17 points and six rebounds, while J.J. Babcock had 13 points and three rebounds, Mason Lister had 12 points and five steals, and Tucker Brown added 12 points and three steals.

Nalen Carling had 11 points, four rebounds and four steals in the win, while Shayne Reid had eight points and five steals, and Carson Smith added seven points and three steals, and Ryan Thompson chipped in with two points and two boards.

Athens 73, Susquehanna Valley 65

Athens used a strong second half to pull out a 73-65 win over Susquehanna Valley in its second game of the day. Athens trailed 37-36 at the intermission.

J.J. Babcock was 9 of 10 from the free-throw line in the second half, and Troy Pritchard added nine points and five rebounds after the intermission. Shayne Reid scored six points in the second half, and Tucker Brown had five points and five rebounds.

Athens 70, Valley Swarm 65

In the nightcap, J.J. Babcock, Troy Pritchard, and Tucker Brown led Athens to a 70-65 win over the Dallas, Pa.-based Valley Swarm.

Pritchard and Brown, who was 7-for-7 at the free-throw line, scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds apiece, and Babcock also scored 17 points in the win.

Carson Smith added seven points and three rebounds for Athens, while Mason Lister had five points and six rebounds, and Shayne Reid chipped in with five points.
