NTL BASEBALL: MOORE, FICARRO LEAD SAYRE IN 10-0 WIN OVER WILLIAMSON (16 PHOTOS) (2019-04-22)

SAYRE "” Sophomore Zach Moore pitched four strong innings, and junior Nic Ficarro paced Sayre's offense in a 10-0 five-inning win over Williamson here Monday afternoon in NTL Small School baseball action.

Moore pitched four innings of two-hit ball to earn the win. He fanned three and walked none. Junior Corbin Brown closed the game with a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and one walk.

The Redskins scored all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first inning.

Moore led off the inning with a line-drive double to center field. After a walk to junior Camden Wheeler, junior Quinn Hanafin ripped an RBI single to left field to make it 1-0.

After a walk to senior James Esposito loaded the bases, freshman Brayden Horton plated a run with a sacrifice to push the lead to 2-0.

In the third inning, senior Jon Cron drove in a run with a groundout to make it 3-0, then sophomore Jake Burgess and Ficarro stroked RBI singles, sandwiched around a single by freshman David Northrup, to extend the lead to 5-0.

The Redskins took advantage of two walks and three error to increase its lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Northrup knocked in a run with a groundout, and Ficarro capped the rally with an RBI single to centerfield to make it 10-0.

The Warriors loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning on a walk, a hit batter, and a single, but Brown induced a groundball to Hanafin at shortstop for the final out to end the game via the 10-run "mercy rule."

Ficarro was 3-for-3 with two RBI to lead Sayre's nine-hit attack, while Burgess singled, scored twice, and drove in two runs, Horton singled, scored two runs, and knocked in one run, and Cron had three RBI.

Moore doubled and scored a run in the win, Hanafin singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, Northrup singled and drove in a run, and Brown added a single.

Sayre, now 4-6, hosts Cowanesque Valley Tuesday.
