TIOGA CENTER — Fans of Tioga Central wrestling will have an opportunity to watch at least one Tiger grappler compete at the college level close to home next year. Standout Derak Heyman verbally committed this week to attend Binghamton University in 2011.

Heyman, the 2009 New York State Division II 130-pound champion informed the university of his decision on Tuesday.

There's nothing tougher than trying to pick winners in Week 1 of the high school football season.

TIOGA CENTER — The gymnasium at Tioga Central was unusually warm Thursday evening, but the heat on the court was even more scorching as the host Tigers and Thomas A. Edison battled it out in an IAC bout that could very well be a prelude to the Section IV Class C championship match in early November.

TIOGA CENTER — Groton football coach Jeff Lewis was quoted this week as saying his program is trying to build a football dynasty similar to those in Chenango Forks, Delhi and Walton. Tioga Central would like nothing more than to make Lewis eat his words.

TIOGA CENTER — Two consecutive days of scorching heat and a beating sun, along with a talented Elmira Notre Dame team, were too much for Tioga Central here Wednesday afternoon as the Crusaders took a 4-2 IAC victory.

TIOGA CENTER — Tioga Central showed very few ill effects of a season-opening loss to Windsor, opening IAC play in dominating fashion with a 25-12, 25-18, 25-12 sweep of Newark Valley here Tuesday evening.
