The last two games, the Waverly girls have played more like I expected heading into this season.

Thursday night, sophomore Reylyn Schwartzhoff was dominant in the low post, scoring 27 points and grabbing 10 rebounds and doing it against a very good Notre Dame team.

I was on hand last night for the Waverly-Tioga girls game and I must say it was an odd, but entertaining game.

Neither team found any kind of rhythm in the game until Waverly's decisive fourth-quarter run.

On three different occasions, Waverly used a small run to take a seven- or eight-point lead only to have Tioga rally to tie the game.

Saturday was quite a day for the Tioga Tigers wrestling team.

Facing a large deficit after the semifinals, Tioga wrestlers like Tyler Spires, Kaleb Stone and Jesse Manuel, who were disappointed about not making the finals, led a charge through the consolation bracket that piled up points for the Tigers.

Basketball is a game of runs and Friday's Waverly-Watkins Glen is proof positive.

The Wolverines opened with intense defensive pressure and jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first 59 seconds of the game. They extended their lead to 16-4 with 1:01 left in the first quarter. ...more
