SECTION IV BOYS BOWLING: WAVERLY'S CANFIELD FINISHES THIRD AT CLASS C CHAMPIONSHIPS (2019-02-08)

VESTAL - Junior Derrick Canfield finished third in the individual standings to lead Waverly to a sixth-place finish here Friday afternoon in the Section IV, Class C boys bowling championships at Midway Lanes.

Sidney captured the Class C team title with a three-game total of 2,944 pins, while Newark Valley was second at 2,771, Windsor was third at 2,757, Union Springs / Port Byron was fourth at 2,743, Watkins Glen was fifth with 2,671 pins, and Waverly tallied 2,656 pins.

Newark Valley's Kyle Pratt and Sidney's Ryan Cole shared high series honors at 701.

Canfield rolled a 656 series with a high game of 225, while 8th-grader Ashton Pritchard finished 16th with a 574 series, including a 221 high game, and 8th-grader Zach Vanderpool finished 24th with a 534, including a 190 high game.

Sophomore Matt Mauersberg rolled a 475 series for the Wolverines, while sophomore Richard Stevens had a two-game total of 292, and freshman Cody Blackwell added a 125  in his only game.

Canfield and Vanderpool return to action next weekend at the Section IV State Qualifier.
