LEWISBURG - Sayre senior Josh McClelland finished 20th in the 100-yard freestyle preliminaries Thursday morning at the PIAA Swimming & Diving Championships here at Bucknell University.
McClelland clocked in at 48.84 seconds, more than 1/2-second off his seed time of 48.27 seconds, and did not advance to the 100-yard finals Thursday night.
"Josh's performance today was absolutely fantastic and although it didn't take him to tonight's finals, swimming a sub-50 in the 100 free is nothing to be disappointed with," said Sayre coach Carrie Wright.
"Josh has made the entire Redskin community, as well as the local swim community very proud with his efforts and accomplishments," added Wright.
Belle Vernon sophomore Ian Shahan swam the fastest time in the preliminaries at 45.8 seconds, and Lewisburg senior Christian Coleman posted the second-fastest time at 46.15 seconds.
The eighth-place time (final spot in the championship heat) was 47.53 seconds, and the 16th-fastest time (last spot in the consolation finals) was 48.56 seconds.
McClelland won a bronze medal in the 50-yard freestyle Wednesday.
