WOMEN'S COLLEGE TRACK & FIELD: TIOGA GRAD WHITCOMB TURNS IN BEST JUMPS OF FRESHMAN SEASON (2019-04-23)

Valley Sports Report
CORTLAND "” Tioga grad Rachel Whitcomb, a freshman on the SUNY Cortland track & field team, had the best performance in her brief collegiate career, finishing fifth in the high jump at the Cortland Friday Night Under the Lights Invite on April 12.

Whitcomb finished fifth, clearing the bar with a college-best 4-feet, 9-inch effort.

She earned praise from coach Steve Patrick.

"Our horizontal jumps had some great efforts from everybody, but the jumps of freshmen Rachel Whitcomb, Kitty Tang, and Eliza Schutt, along with sophomore Riley Wood, really stand out as big achievements on the day."

On Saturday, Whitcomb matched her career-best effort of 4-feet, 9-inches to finish eighth at the two-day Cortland Classic.

On April 6, Whitcomb finished 20th in the high jump at 4-feet, 6 1/4-inches at the Millersville Metric.

Cortland will return to action Saturday at the Shippensburg Paul Kaiser Classic.
