IAC JV SOFTBALL: WAVERLY DROPS A PAIR TO EDISON — GOES 2-2 ON WEEK (2019-05-14)

WAVERLY "” Waverly played on fur consecutive days last week, posting a 2-2 record in IAC junior varsity softball action.

The junior Lady Wolverines posted wins over Candor and S-VE, but dropped a pair of hard-fought decisions to Thomas A. Edison.

May 6
Waverly 19, Candor 4
At Candor, Megan Ward and Michaela Lauper combined on a three-hitter to lead Waverly to a 19-4 win over Candor on May 6.

Ward allowed four runs - one earned - on three hits, while striking out six and walking three in 4 1/3 innings to earn the win. Lauper retired all five batters she faced, including three strikeouts.

Aubrey Ennis homered and singled,, scored three runs, and drove in two runs, while Erin Linquist singled twice, scored one run, and had two RBI, and Taylor Hall singled twice and drove in two runs to pace Waverly at the plate.

Jadyn Babcock and Bella Romano each singled, scored two runs, and knocked in two runs for the Lady Wolverines, while Emilee Little singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run, Lauper singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, and Ward singled once, stole two bases, and scored two runs.

Rachel Smith, Lourden Benjamin, and Kylie Payne each scored two runs in the win.

May 7
Edison 11, Waverly 7
At Elmira Heights, Waverly scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 7-6 lead, but Edison answered with five runs in the home half to pull out an 11-7 win.

The junior Lady Spartans jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two innings, and led 6-2 after five innings.

Michaela Lauper ripped an RBI double in the top of the sixth inning to pull Waverly within a run, at 6-5, and Jadyn Babcock followed with a two-run double to give Waverly a 7-6 lead.

Edison answered with four hits in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-7 lead, then took advantage of a passed ball and an error to make it 11-7.

Babcock doubled and singled, and drove in two runs, and Aubrey singled twice and knocked in one run to pace Waverly at the plate, while Lauper doubled, scored one run, and knocked in one run, and Kennedy Herriman and Bella Romano each singled and scored one run.

Erin Linquist scored two runs for Waverly, and Rachel Smith and Taylor Hall each crossed the plate once.

Wednesday
Waverly 22, S-VE 9
At Spencer, Waverly scored in every inning, and pulled away for a 22-9 win over S-VE Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Wolverines jumped out to a 6-0 lead after 1 1/2 innings, but trailed 9-8 after three innings. They tied the game with a run in the top of the fourth inning, then blew the game open with four runs in the fifth, and seven more in the sixth inning.

Aubrey Ennis had three hits, including a home run, scored four runs, and had three RBI, while Kennedy Herriman had three hits, two runs scored, and two RBI, Bella Romano had three hits, one runs scored, and three RBI, Jadyn Babcock had three hits and three runs scored, Rachel Smith had three hits, one runs scored, and three RBI, and Taylor Hall was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, and two RBI to pace Waverly's 25-hit attack.

Michaela Lauper and Megan Ward each doubled and singled, scored one run, and drove in one run in the win, Lourden Benjamin singled twice, scored one run, and drove in two runs, Erin Linquist singled and scored four runs, and Emilee Little scored two runs and drove in one run.

Lauper earned the win for the Lady Wolverines, allowing four runs - none earned - on five hits, while striking out three and walking none in five innings of relief.

Ward started in the pitcher's circle for Waverly, allowing five runs - four earned - on three hits, while striking out four and walking two in two innings.

Thursday
Edison 8, Waverly 6
At Waverly, Edison scored five runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-2 lead, then held off a Waverly rally in the home half of the seventh for an 8-6 win Thursday afternoon.

Trailing 8-2, Waverly took advantage of three walks, a hit batsman, and an error to score four runs on just two hits - singles by Rachel Smith and Kennedy Herriman, but left the bases loaded.

Aubrey Ennis doubled and singled, while Rachel Smith singled twice and scored two runs, and Taylor Hall singled twice and drove in one run to lead Waverly's nine-hit attack, while Bella Romano singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, Erin Linguist doubled and scored one run, Herriman singled and scored one run, and Lauper scored one run, and had two RBI.
