TIOGA CENTER "” State-ranked Waverly bounced back after a loss in the IAC Championship game Thursday to post a 6-0 win over Tioga here Friday afternoon in IAC non-divisional softball action.

Senior Wendi Hammond continued her dominance in the pitcher's circle for the Wolverines. She allowed just one hit, and fanned 15 in a complete-game, seven-inning performance.

On the season, Hammond has 224 strikeouts in 101 2/3 innings, and has allowed just 32 hits. She has an ERA of 0.34.

Hammond also gave the Lady Wolverines a quick 1-0 lead, pounding her 12th home run of the season in the top of the first inning.

Tioga sophomore Kindra Wessels matched zeroes with Hammond after the lead-off home run until the top of the sixth inning.

Sophomore Hali Jenner and junior Riley Hall led off the sixth with back-to-back singles, and junior Paige Lewis was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With one out, sophomore Alyssa Sindoni reliever a two-run single up the middle to give Waverly a 3-0 lead. Junior Morgan Lee capped the scoring with an RBI single to make it 4-0.

Waverly added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to provide the final margin.

Hammond homered, scored two runs, and drove in one run, and Sindoni singled and drove in two runs to pace Waverly's seven-hit attack, while Jenner singled and scored two runs, Hall singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run, Morgan Lee singled and drove in one run, and Kari VanAllen added a double. Megan Lee added an RBI in the win.

Wessels hit a two-out singled in the fourth inning for Tioga's only hit of the contest.

Wessels was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs - five earned - on seven hits, while striking out nine and walking two in seven innings.

Waverly, ranked second in Class B, wraps up the regular season with a 16-2 record, while Tioga, ranked 17th in Class C, finishes at 11-5.
