DISTRICT 15 LITTLE LEAGUE (MINORS): SAYRE ROLLS TO 16-1 WIN OVER RTL IN OPENING GAME OF POOL PLAY (2019-06-26)

SAYRE "” Sayre scored 10 runs in the first inning and rolled to a 16-1 three-inning win over RTL here Wednesday evening in District 15 Little League Minors Division pool play action on Jeff Terpko Field at Riverfront Park.

Chase Wheeler stroked a two-run single in the home half of the first to give Sayre a 5-0 lead, then Blake Zingeser added an RBI single to make it 6-0.

Brendan Cooke, who lead off the game with a single, provided the big blow in the game with a three-run home run to extend the lead to 9-0.

Maison Apgar and Justin Koenig re-ignited the rally with back-to-back singles, and Brady Flynn drove in the last run of he rally with a fielder's choice grounder.

Ty Owen rapped an RBI double and Wheeler stroked an RBI single as part of Sayre's six-run rally in the third inning.

Cooke earned the win on the mound for Sayre, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out eight and walking three in three innings of work.

Cook homered and singled, scored three runs, and had three RBI to lead Sayre at the plate, while Koenig singled twice and scored two runs, and Wheeler singled, scored one run, and had three RBI.

Owen doubled, scored two runs, and drove in one run in the win, while Apgar and Flynn each singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run, Zingeser singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, Cameron Ross singled and scored one run, and Tucker Green and Jake Gorsline each scored one run.

Sayre closes out pool play Friday at Athens.
