ON TAP TODAY: WAVERLY FLAG FOOTBALL TEAM PLAYS FIRST-EVER GAME (2024-03-25)

Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY — Waverly teams see their first action of the spring today, with the flag football team playing its first-ever game, and the tennis team opening the 2024 season.

FLAG FOOTBALL
Waverly at Windsor, 6 p.m.:
The Wolverines make their flag football debut at Windsor this afternoon.

The emerging sport is under the auspices of Section IV. Waverly is in the Small School Division with the likes of U-E, Vestal, and Susquehanna Valley, as well as Owego and Chenango Forks, who met in last year’s Section IV Championship game, and Chenango Valley, Norwich, Greene, and Johnson City.

Waverly’s home opener is April 6 against Ithaca.

BASEBALL
Blue Ridge at Sayre (0-1), 4:30 p.m.: The Redskins look to even their record after a season-opening 12-4 loss to Canton Friday, while the Blue Raiders open the 2024 season.

TENNIS
Waverly at Chenango Valley, 4:30 p.m.:
The Wolverines are coming off a 7-3 season, which is thought to be the best in program history, but will have to replace five starters — all of them under classmen — from that team.
