Wendi Hammond earned a pair of wins — including the 50th of her career — over the weekend in the University of Albany’s three-game sweep of Maine in America East Conference softball action.
In the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader, Hammond, a grad student, tossed a complete game, allowing four runs — two earned — on six hits, while striking out seven and walking three. She threw 125 pitches in Albany’s 6-4 win.
On Sunday, Hammond tossed five innings to earn her milestone 50th career win. She allowed three runs — two earned — on seven hits, while striking out four and walking none in the Dane’s 4-3 win.
On the season, Hammond is 10-5 with a 2.41 ERA. She has allowed 75 hits in 78 1/3 innings, while striking out 49 and walking 29. For her career, Hammond is 50-30 with a 2.85 ERA, and 365 strikeouts in 522 1/3 career innings.
Albany’s doubleheader at Siena today has been postponed. The Danes will host the University of Maryland at Baltimore County for a twinbill Saturday, and a single game Sunday.
