COLLEGE SOFTBALL: WAVERLY GRAD HAMMOND EARNS WINS SATURDAY, SUNDAY AGAINST UMBC; HAS WON FIVE STRAIGHT STARTS (2024-04-09)

Wendi Hammond, a grad student on the University of Albany softball, picked up wins on Friday and Saturday, and has now won five straight starts for the Great Danes.
On Saturday, Hammond allowed two runs — one earned — on four hits, while striking out six and walking two in seven innings in a 3-2 win over the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.. She also singled in three at-bats.
On Sunday, Hammond allowed one run on seven hits, while striking out four and walking two in seven innings in a 2-1 win over UMBC.
On the season, Hammond is 12-5 with a 2.20 ERA. She has allowed 86 hits in 92 1/3 innings, while striking out 59 and walking 33.
Albany, now 16-7, returns to action Tuesday in a twinbill at UMass-Lowell.
