WAVERLY’S JOHNSON NAMED THE SPORTS REPORTS / ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL BOYS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”Johnson was a triple-winner at Johnson CIty’s Square Deal Track & Field Invitational, including a record-breaking performance of 10.7 seconds in the 100-meter dash, which is the fastest in N.Y. State this spring.
Johnson won the 100 in a time of 10.81 seconds, but ran the school-record time of 10.7 seconds in the preliminaries. He also ran the anchor leg on the 400-meter relay, and was on the first-place 1,600-meter relay as well.
Earlier in the week, Johnson won the 100-meter dash in Waverly’s dual against Owego. He also ran the anchor leg on the winning 400-meter relay that clocked in at 43.56 seconds.
Honorable Mention: Horseheads’ Cooper Ball (baseball), Wellsboro’s Marek Mascho (baseball), Owego’s Evan English (baseball), and Troy’s Avery Sens (track & field).
CORNING’S SULLIVAN NAMED THE SPORTS REPORTS / ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL GIRLS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”Sullivan had a big week at the plate, and on the mound for the Corning Hawks as they went 4-0.
At the plate Sullivan was 8-for-12 with three home runs, two doubles, a triple, 11 RBI and nine runs scored. She also pitched 12 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and striking out 21 on the week.
Sullivan had a home run, four RBI and three runs scored, with a double, in a win over Horseheads, then had two home runs in a win over Williamson, with four RBI and two runs scored.
She was 3-for-3 with two RBI, three runs scored, a double and a triple against Binghamton and she had a hit, an RBI and a run scored against Johnson City.
