SAYRE LITTLE LEAGUE CELEBRATES OPENING DAY AT RIVERFRONT PARK (2024-04-27)

Valley Sports Report
SAYRE — The Sayre Little League celebrated Opening Day with all the normal festivities here at Riverfront Park on a cool and overcast Saturday morning.

Each team participating made an entrance on to the Majors Division field, most taking the direct route to their assigned spot on the field, with a few taking a more circuitous route in front of a large crowd of friends, family, and fans in attendance.

Little League President Paul Blythe was the Master of Ceremonies, and introduced his fellow LL board members Brian Rich (vice president), Lois Mazzarese (treasurer), Felicia Kmetz (secretary), Nate Ross (safety officer), and Ron Myers (coaches coordinator / player advocate).

Sayre varsity baseball coach, and former LL President Todd Green offering a short inspirational speech to the Little Leaguers before last year’s Minor, Major and Junior Division all-stars were honored with the presentation of a medal.

The ceremonial pitches were thrown out by LL softball player Ava Rich throwing to her father Brian Rich, LL baseball player Maddox Myers throwing to his father Ron Myers, and “Baseball Moms” representative Karla Green to her son Tanner Green, a senior on the Sayre varsity baseball team.

After the ceremonial first pitches, Sayre High School senior Isabella Russo sang a wonderful version of the National Anthem.

Following the ceremony, Sayre Little League had a full day of action on its schedule.
