COLLEGE SOFTBALL: WAVERLY GRAD HAMMOND THROWS SECOND NO-HITTER OF THE SEASON (2024-04-28)

ALBANY — Waverly grad Wendi Hammond won two more games this week, and threw her second no-hitter of the season Saturday, tying a career-high with her fifth shutout.

Hammond opened the week with a 7-3 win over Army Tuesday. She stuck out six and walked three, while giving up three runs on four hits in seven innings.

On Thursday, Hammond pitched the final two innings in Albany’s 8-2 win over Central Conn. State. She allowed one unearned run on three hits, while striking out four, and walking one.

On Saturday, Hammond pitched a five-inning no-hitter in a 9-0 win over the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. She fanned five and walked none, while facing just one batter over the minimum.

Hammond threw a seven-inning no-hitter against Wisconsin earlier this season.

Hammond has a career-high 18 wins against seven losses this season with a career-high five shutouts, and a career-low 2.15 ERA. She has fanned 98 and walked 47 in 140 innings. For her career, she is now 58-32 with a 2.74 ERA and four saves in 584 innings.

Albany, now 25-11, wraps up its three-game series at UMBC Sunday with a doubleheader.
