THE VALLEY — Athens sophomore Maddie Hiley, and freshman Gretchan Hiley were major contributors in four straight wins in two days for the Wildcats, while Waverly senior Micah Chandler had an outstanding day at Wyalusing’s Lasagna Track & Field Invite. They are the Valley Sports Report / Bishop Brothers ConstructionAthletes of the Week,” for the week ending April 27.

HILEY SISTERS SHARE BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION GIRLS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK” HONORS
Maddie and Gretchen Hiley combined for 19 hits at the plate, and 9 1/3 innings of one-hit ball in the circle to help Athens to four wins over the weekend.

In five games last week (Athens was 4-1), Gretchen Hiley hit .500 (9 hits in 18 ABs) with eight runs scored, three doubles, four RBI, one walk, and one stolen base. In the circle, she pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit, with 13 strikeouts and four walks. She earned a win in a three-inning no-hitter against Central Columbia.

Maddie Hiley hit .714 (10 hits in 14 ABs) with eight runs scored, three doubles, seven RBI, and one stolen base, and three walks. In the circle, she pitched four no-hit innings, including a three-inning no-hitter against Wellsboro with six strikeouts and two walks.

WAVERLY’S CHANDLER NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION BOYS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Chandler was a triple-winner to lead the Wolverines to a fifth-place finish at the annual Lasagna Track & Field Invite at Wyalusing Friday.

Chandler won the 100-meter dash in 11.26, and the 200-meter dash in 22.74 seconds. He was also on a 400-meter relay time that won in 43.52, which hits the N.Y. State Super Standard — guaranteeing the relay a trip to States providing it competes at the Section IV Championships.
