TIOGA — Senior Sarah Hollenbeck singled home the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to cap Tioga’s come-from-behind, 6-5, win over Towanda here Tuesday afternoon non-league softball action.
The Lady Tigers wrap up the regular season at 13-5, and opens postseason play Thursday at home against Groton.
Towanda built a 4-1 lead through 4 1/2 innings, but with one swing junior Marissa Howe tied the game with a three-run home run to left field, scoring Abby Lyons and Megan Godfrey, who had both reached base on singles.
Towanda scored a run in the top of the sixth inning, but Hollenbeck stroked an RBI singe to centerfield to tie the score at 5-5.
Tioga relief pitcher Madalyn Dydynski retired the side in order in the seventh and eighth innings, setting the stage for the home half of the eighth.
Junior Kurstan Martin led off the frame and reached second base on a Towanda infield errors. Lyons then flared a single to center field to put runners on first and third.
Hollenbeck then hit an 0-1 pitch to center field for the “walk-off” win.
Howe homered and singled, and drove in three runs, and Godfrey had three hits, including a double, and scored a run to lead Tioga’s 13-hit attack, while junior Sara Strong tripled and singled, and scored a run, and Hollenbeck doubled and singled, and had two RBI.
Sophomore Kelsey Vosburgh doubled and singled for the Lady Tigers, while Lyons singled twice and scored a run, and Martin scored a run.
Culver started for Tioga and allowed two runs on two hits in five innings, while striking out eight and walking three.
Dydynski earned the win, allowing three runs — one earned — on three hits and three walks in the three innings. She struck out one.
