THE VALLEY — Following a dominating regular season, Waverly junior Kennedy Wheeler won four medals at the Section IV, Class B Championships to earn the 2017-18 Valley Sports Report girls “Swimmer of the Year.”

A four-time “Super 7” selection, Wheeler set the Lady Wolverine program record in the 100-yard butterfly, and won a silver medal in that event in a time of 1:01.3. She also earned a seventh-place medal in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.24 seconds.

Wheeler won the gold medal in the butterfly at the IAC Championships, and a silver medal in the 50 free.

She also swam on a pair of medal-winning relays at the Class B Championships, including the 2017-18 “Relay of the Year.” Seniors Paige Miller, and Morgan Zwierlein, and freshman Maggie Whitley joined Wheeler in the 200-yard freestyle relay to finish fifth in a time of 1:49.02.

Athens senior Abigail Thoman, who won District 4 gold in the 1-meter diving competition, repeats as “Diver of the Year.” Thoman, who also won gold at the NTL Championships, finished 20th at the PIAA Championships.

Athens freshman Amy Jarvis is the 2017-18 “Newcomer of the Year,” after earning a fourth-place medal at the District 4 Championships.

Jarvis finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:06.79, and was also eighth in the 500-yard freestyle in  5:49.65. At the NTL Championships, she was second in 500 free in 6:00.07, second in 200 free in 2:13.77, and swam on two winning relays.

The 2017-18 Girls Swimming “Super 7” is as follows:

Kayla Kittle, junior, Sayre:
A three-time “Super 7” selection, Kittle medalled at the District 4 Championships, placing fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.93 seconds. She was also eighth in 100 free in 57.22.

At the NTL Championships, Kittle was second in the 50 free in 26.17 seconds, and second in the 100 free in 56.22 seconds.

Starr Harford, junior, Waverly: Harford earned a sixth-place medal at the Class B Championships in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:43.81, and swam on two medal-winning relays. She was ninth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:05.04.

At the IAC Championships, she earned all-league status with a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:06.36. She finished fifth in 500 free in 5:41.74.

Amy Jarvis, freshman, Athens: See above.

Jillian Shay, sophomore, Sayre: A two-time “Super 7” selection, and last year’s “Newcomer of the Year,” Shay narrowly missed out on a medal at the D4 Championships, placing seventh in the 500 free in 5:47.3. She was ninth in the 200 free.

At the NTL Championships, Shay finished third in the 500 free in 6:00.94, third in 200 free in 2:15.6, and swam on a gold-medal winning relay.

Paige Miller, senior, Waverly: Miller earned three medals at the Class B Championships, including a fifth-place medal in the 1-meter diving competition. She also swam on two medal-winning relays, and placed 10th int he 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.74 seconds.

At the IAC Championships, Miller placed fourth in diving competition, and fifth in the 50 free in 26.9 seconds.
