SCHOLASTIC TRACK & FIELD: ATHENS' GAMBRELL WINS FRESHMAN GOLD AT NEW BALANACE OUTDOOR NATIONALS (2 PHOTOS) (2018-06-15)

GREENSBORO, N.C. Ben Gambrell IV posted a career-best jump to win a gold medal here Friday afternoon at the 2018 New Balance Nationals Outdoor Track & Field Championships here on the campus of North Carolina A&T.

Gambrell IV, who won a gold medal at the NTL Championships in mid-May with a leap of 20-feet, 1 1/4-inches, won the Freshman Division long jump title with a then career-best effort of 20-feet, 6 1/4-inches.

Gambrell IV was one of five athletes to top the 20-foot mark.

Curtis Weh of Haverford Twp., Pa. finished second at 20-feet, 5 3/4-inches, while Christian Borden of Stephens, Va. was third at 20-feet, 5 1/4-inches, Michael Bourne of Cosby, Va. was fourth at 20-feet, 1-inch, and Aaron Ray of Donovan, Md. was width at 20-feet, 1/2-inch.

Gambrell IV joins his sister Breana Gambrell, who won a gold medal in 2015, as Freshman Division champs.
