VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: WAVERLY'S HAMMOND SOFTBALL 'PLAYER OF THE YEAR' — ATHENS' ADAMS, WAVERLY'S MENNIG, TIOGA'S ROSSI, KLOSSNER ALSO EARN TOP HONORS (20180619)
Valley Sports Report THE VALLEY — Waverly junior Wendi Hammond had an outstanding season in the pitcher’s circle, and at the plate to earn the honor of 2018 Valley Sports Report softball “Player of the Year.”
Hammond hit .537 (teamhigh 36 hits in 67 ABs) with a teamhigh nine doubles, one triple, two home runs, 20 RBI, 33 runs scored and 15 stolen bases. She also walked eight times for a .597 onbase percentage with a .791 slugging percentage and a teambest 1.388 OPS.
Hammond posted an 115 record with a 0.40 ERA. She allowed 45 hits and 24 walks in 105 innings, while striking out 177. Opposing batters hit just .119 against her. She is also the 2018 “Pitcher of the Year.”
Athens junior Emma Adams hit .500 on the season and is the 2018 “Offensive Player of the Year.” Adams, who is also a tremendous defender in center field, had 28 hits in 56 atbats with seven doubles, two triples, one home run, 21 RBI, 27 runs scored, and 16 stolen bases. She also walked 11 times and had an onbase percentage of .582.
Waverly senior Zoe Mennig, a fiveyear starter, is a dynamic defender behind the plate. She committed just one error in 204 total chances for a .995 fielding percentage, and threw out four runners attempting to steal second base to earn "Defensive Player of the Year" honors.
Tioga sophomore Giovanna Rossi made a major impact in helping the Lady Tigers to a division title, and earning "Newcomer of the Year" honors.
Rossi .400 (20 hits in 50 ABs) with 13 extrabase hits — five doubles, four triples and four home runs — 23 RBI, and 18 runs scored. She had a .900 slugging percentage and a 1.356 OBP. Following a year away from the program, Heather Klossner returned to lead Tioga to a 173 season, and its fifth consecutive IAC Small School title to earn “Coach of the Year” honors.

Mariah Culver, senior, Tioga: Culver hit .456 (31 hits in 68 ABs) with five doubles, three triples, three home runs, eight stolen bases, 19 runs scored, and 25 RBI. She also had a .750 slugging percentage and a 1.243 OBP.
In the pitcher’s circle, Culver posted a 1.36 ERA in 67 innings. She allowed 36 hits and 23 walks, while striking out 123. Opposing batters hit just .149 against her.
Madalyn Dydynski, senior, Tioga: Dydynski post an 0.78 REA in 57 2/3 innings. She allowed 39 hits and 12 walks, while striking out 75. Opposing batters hit just .181 against her.
She also hit .344 (22 hits in 64 ABs) with three doubles, two triples, 15 RBI, 10 stolen bases, and 19 runs scored.
Zoe Mennig, senior, Waverly: The “Defensive Player of the Year,” Mennig also hit .358 (24 hits in 67 ABs) with six doubles, three triples, three home runs, 23 RBI and 18 runs scored. She had a .672 slugging percentage, and a 1.083 OPS.

Megan Bennett, sophomore, Athens: Bennett posted a 97 record with a 2.49 ERA. She allowed 91 hits and 22 walks in 110 innings, while striking out 123. Opposing batters hit .202 against her.

First Base — Emma Repsher, freshman, Athens: A good defender at first base, Repsher hit .429 (16 hits in 42 ABs) with three doubles, one triple, 15 runs scored and 18 RBI. She walked 15 times and had an onbase percentage of .580.

Shortstop — Mimi Martin, junior, Athens: A good defender at shortstop, Martin hit .400 (16 hits in 40 ABs) with two doubles, two triples, two home runs, nine runs scored, nine stolen bases, and 13 RBI. She also walked eight times and had a .500 onbase percentage.
Third Base — Riley Hall, sophomore, Waverly: A dangerous hitter, Riley was second on the team with a .452 batting average (28 hits in 62 ABs) with eight doubles, two home runs, a teamhigh 26 RBI, and 16 runs scored. She had a .677 slugging percentage and a 1.177 OPS.
Outfield — Blair Wampole, senior, Sayre: A solid defender in the outfield, Wampole hit .333 (13 hits in 39 ABs) with six doubles, one home run, eight RBI, six stolen bases, and 10 runs scored. She had a .564 slugging percentage and a .930 OPS.

Outfield — Kelsey Vosburgh, junior, Tioga: A spark plug in the Lady Tiger lineup, Vosburgh hit .350 (21 hits in 60 ABs) with five doubles, two triples, 10 RBI, 12 runs scored, and a teamhigh 11 stolen bases.

Utility — Daysha Rorick, senior, SVE: A strong presence behind the plate, Rorick also earned four of the Lady Panthers’ wins in the pitcher’s circle.
Rorick hit . 328 (21 hits in 64 ABs) with four doubles, two triples, one home run, nine stolen bases, 17 runs scored, and 14 RBI. She also worked 12 walks and had a .434 onbase percentage.
