DISTRICT 4 WRESTLING: ATHENS' GALASSO LEADS WAY FOR VALLEY WRESTLERS HEADED TO DISRICTS (2019-02-18)

WIL'PORT - Athens senior David Galasso is the lone Valley wrestler seeded in the top four in his weight class this weekend at the District 4, Class AA wrestling championships at Williamsport.

Galasso (29-4), who won a North Section title Saturday, is the second seed at 170 pounds, while freshman Gavin Bradley and junior Alex West are both sixth seeds in their respective weight classes.

Galasso, who is a returning state qualifier, received a bye into the quarterfinals, where he will face the winner of the opening-round match-up between seventh-seeded Ethan Gush (30-10), a Muncy sophomore who finished third at the Central Section Tournament, and 10th-seed Damon Backes (17-7), a Shamokin freshman who was fourth at the South Section.

Montoursville sophomore Dylan Bennett (33-5), who won the Central Section title, is the top seed at 170 pounds, while Mifflinburg senior Jansen Youdeshell (29-3), the South Section champ, is the third seed, and Line Mountain sophomore Jacob Feese (25-11), the South Section runner-up, is the fourth seed.

At 106 pounds, Bradley, the runner-up at the North Section Tournament Saturday, is the sixth seed, and will square off with 11th-seeded Southern Columbia freshman Brady Feese (17-15), who finished fourth at the South Section, in the opening round.

The winner will face third-seed Robert Gardner, a freshman from South Williamsport with a 29-1 record, in the quarterfinals. He won the Central Section 106-pound title Saturday.

The top seed at 106 is North Section champ Troy junior Sheldon Seymour (26-0), while Line Mountain junior Blake Wirt (21-11), who won the South Section champ, is the second seed, and Benton senior Zach Kremer (18-8) is the fourth seed.

At 113 pounds, Athens freshman Kaden Setzer (19-12), who placed fourth at the North Section, is the 10th seed and will face seventh-seeded Warrior Run sophomore Landan Kurtz (6-16) in the opening round.

The winner will face South Section champ and second seed Gabe Gramly (33-4), a sophomore from Mifflinburg, in the quarterfinals.

The top seed at 113 is Benton sophomore Gabe Strickland (22-3), who won the Central Section title, while Jersey Shore freshman Liam Goodrich (19-10), who won the North Section, is the third seed, and Troy freshman Seth Seymour (19-10) is the fourth seed.

At 126 pounds, Athens freshman Karter Rude (20-11), who finished third at the North Section, is the ninth seed and will face eighth-seed T.J. Walter (21-10) of Milton, the third-place finisher at the South Section, in the opening round.

The winner will face top-seed Bryce Vollman, who is a Muncy sophomore with a 26-4 record. He won the Central Section 126-pound title.

Southern Columbia sophomore Ian Yoder (23-10), who won a South Section title, is the second seed, while North Section champ Williamson senior Matt Carpenter (24-5) is the third seed, and North Section runner-up Wyalusing freshman Nick Woodruff (24-9) is the fourth seed.

At 145 pounds, Sayre freshman Jacob Bennett, who finished fourth at the North Section Tournament, is the 12th seed and will square off with Central Section runner-up and fifth-seed Christian Good of Muncy (30-10) in the opening round.

The winner will face fourth seed Kameron Kline (27-6) of Midd-West in the quarterfinals.

North Section champ Towanda senior Preston Rogers (27-6) is the top seed at 145 pounds, while Central Columbia senior Nate Snyder (20-8), who won the Central Section title, is the second seed, and South Section champ freshman Gavin Garcia (17-1) is the third seed.

At 160 pounds, West (20-15), the North Section runner-up, is the sixth-seed and will face 10th-seeded Mifflinburg junior Dominic Sampsell (15-13), who finished fourth at the South Section, in the opening round.

The winner will face third-seeded Central Section champ Muncy freshman Ty Nixon (25-12) in the quarterfinals.

Towanda senior Cooper Mosier (30-3), who won the North Section title, is the top seed at 160 pounds, while Southern Columbia junior Cade Linn (14-5), the South Section champ, is the second seed, and Central Columbia senior Jacob Busch (27-6), the Central Section runner-up, is the fourth seed.

At 195 pounds, Athens sophomore Ben Pernaselli (15-12), who finished fourth at the North Section, is the 10th seed and will face seventh-seeded sophomore Try Lauver (20-7) of Midd-West, who was third at the South Section, in the opening round.

The winner will square off with second seed senior Gable Crebs (27-4) of Montoursville, the Central Section champ, in the quarterfinals.

At 285 pounds, Athens junior Keegan Braund (24-13), who finished fourth at the North Section Tournament, is the 11th seed and will face sixth-seeded Midd-West senior Owen Zechman (20-3), the South Section runner-up, in the quarterfinals.

Southern Columbia junior and South Section champ Lear Quinton (34-6) is the top seed at 285 pounds, while North Section champ NEB junior Dawson Brown (29-2) is the second seed, and Muncy junior and Central Section runner-up Cael Hembury (28-13) is the fourth seed.

The top five finishers in each weight class this weekend advance to the Northeast Regionals at Williamsport High School next weekend.

The District 4 Class AA wrestling championships begin at 5 p.m. Friday. The second session begins Saturday at 10 a.m.
