YOUTH SOFTBALL: EYOTA 16U DALTON REACHES ‘STOP DWI’ SEMIS (2022-07-12)

BINGHAMTON — Eyota 16U Dalton posted a 5-1 record at the “Stop DWI” Blue Chip Fast Pitch Softball Tournament this past weekend before falling in the semifinals.

The team went 4-0 in pool play to draw the No. 1 seed for bracket play. Dalton received a first-round bye into the quarterfinals, then went 1-1, essentially tying for third place as a consolation game was not played.

POOL PLAY
Eyota 13, LI Crush Select 1
Against Crush Select, Eyota scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning to invoke the 10-run rule.

Payton Yahner went 3-for-3 with a run and three RBI, and Ali DiPietro was 2-for-2 with a run and RBI to lead the hitters. Yahner, DiPietro and Jordan Greeno contributed one double apiece.

Kahlen Cornell and Gabby Milazzo paired up to spin a three-hitter with six strikeouts.

Eyota 4, Max Impact 3
McKenzie Scott singled, stole second and scored on Maddie Trisket’s base hit in the bottom of the sixth.

Eyota took a 2-1 lead in the second and tied the game at three in the fourth.

Trisket went 2-for-2 with a run and RBI, and DiPietro drove in a pair of runs with her only hit.

Yahner and Trisket scattered six combined hits, giving up one earned run apiece, and tallied 11 strikeouts.

Eyota 9, PA Krunch Blue Elite 18U 3
Trailing, 3-0, Dalton surged ahead in the home half of the first with four runs, then tacked on five more in the third.

Yahner, who went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, delivered a two-run triple, and RBI singles by DiPrieto and Jackie Conti accounted for the first-inning scoring.

Yahner would triple and steal home in the third, Sarah Terry singled home a run, and Raegan Sudnikovich and Cornell plated the final three runs with doubles. Cornell picked up a pair of RBIs with her hit.

Milazzo and Yahner shared the pitching duties without yielding an earned run.

Eyota 10, Pegasus Gold 18U 0
Leading, 1-0, Eyota pulled away with a five-run fourth and four-run fifth.

Trisket’s RBI double highlighted the fourth-inning uprising which also saw the team take advantage of three singles, two walks, an error and a sacrifice bunt.

In the fifth, Scott led off with a triple then, following back-to-back singles, Greeno smacked a two-run triple and ended the scoring on a passed ball.

Trisket paced a 14-hit attack, going 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI while Terry went 2-for-2 with a run and RBI. Scott, Yahner, Greeno and Conti all went 2-for-3 and accounted for a combined eight runs and RBI. Sudnikovich scored twice.

Cornell and Trisket teamed up to toss a two-hit shutout.

BRACKET PLAY
Eyota 6, Conklin Raiders Rochester 18U 5
Cornell scored Conti with a walk-off single as Eyota rallied from a 5-2 deficit.

The Raiders scored all their runs in the top of the second inning.

Eyota scored twice in the first when Yahner belted a two-run home run in her first at-bat, scoring Taylor Dalton, who reached on a bunt single.

Scott’s inside-the-park homer in the second also plated Cornell and Dalton to knot the game.

Yahner was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI, Scott drove in three runs, and Dalton scored two runs to lead the Eyota batters.

Trisket earned the win with 4 ⅓ innings of two-hit relief. Only one of Conklin’s runs was earned.

Nitro 6, Eyota 4
Eyota climbed out of an early 4-0 hole to eventually tie the score, but Nitro went ahead to stay in its final at-bats.

Scott was 3-for-3 with a run and RBI, Yahner went 2-for-3 with a run and Greeno drove in two runs to set the pace for Eyota.
