YOUTH FOOTBALL: WAVERLY WINS TWO OF THREE GAMES AT TROY IN NTYFL OPENER (2023-08-28)

TROY — Waverly won two of three games against Troy here Saturday in the opening game of the Northern Tier Youth Football League season.

“A” Division
Waverly 26, Troy 14

Brayden Bowman scored a pair of TDs, and Cooper Skovira and Eli Keeney each added one score to lead Waverly to a 26-14 win over Troy in “A” Division action.

Bowman rushed for two TDs, and added a PAT, and Keeney ran for one TD.

Skovira, who ran for one score, completed nine passes to six different receivers. Michael Hendershot, Christian Hiralez, and Levi Couse each had two receptions.

Triton Floyd and Ricky Sindoni led Waverly with four tackles apiece, and Isaiah Grillo had two tackles-for-losses.

“B” Division
Troy 27, Waverly 13

Troy proved a little too much for Waverly in a 27-13 win in the “B” Division contest.

Brody Payne scored a pair of rushing TDs for the junior Wolverines, while Blake Wolcott ran for 40 yards, and Dallas Harbst had one reception for 10 yards.

Payne recorded an interception and a fumble recovery on defense, while Jace LaForest, Jackson Mosier, Blake Wolcott, and Beau Bauman led the Wolverines in tackles.

“C” Division
Waverly 13, Troy 7
Marcel Phillips and Lennox Stark each scored a TD to lead Waverly to a 13-7 win over Troy in “C” Division action.

Phillips scored a rushing TD and a PAT, while Stark scored on a 70-yard fumble return.

Phillips, Neatly DeKay, Chase Donovan, Ryker Roberts, Weston Clark, and Ryder Wolcott led Waverly in tackles.

Waverly returns to action Sept. 10 when it hosts Wellsboro.
