YOUTH FOOTBALL: WAVERLY'S 'C' TEAM NOTCHES ONLY WIN AGAINST WELLSBORO (2023-09-11)

WAVERLY — Waverly played its first home games of the season in Northern Tier Youth Football League action, and only the “C” team came away with a win Sunday at Memorial Stadium.

“C” Division
Waverly 21, Wellsboro 14

Marcel Phillips had a pair of touchdown runs to lead Waverly to a 21-14 win over Wellsboro in the “C” Division game.

Keatley DeKay also scored a TD for the Wolverines, while Ryker Roberts, Preston Smiley and Phillips tacked on PATs.

Lennox Stark, Axten Coston, Chase Donovan and Weston Clark led the Waverly in tackles.

“B” Division
Wellsboro 27, Waverly 7

Wellsboro had four different ball carriers score in a 27-7 win over Waverly in the “B” Division game.

Blake Wolcott led Waverly in rushing, and Brody Payne scored a rushing TD. Spencer Avery and Dallas Harbst had receptions for the Wolverines.

“A” Division
Wellsboro 6, Waverly 0

Both defenses dominated, with multiple players coming up with big tackles and fourth-down stops.

The only score of the game came in the fourth quarter on a halfback-option pass.

Eli Keeney, Triton Floyd and Amelia Wright led Waverly in tackles.

Waverly returns to action Sunday at Sayre at noon. (No “C” game.)
